Re-purpose : Used Crayons

Do u  have too many old and broken crayons that you don't know what to do with? We were in a similar situation and so was Ru and U. Here is our bag full of crayons..

With a blade I carefully cut the wrapper lengthwise and passed it on to the kids to peel them off. This itself was an activity on its own. They loved doing that.

Now, that we had all those peeled crayons, we broke them into small pieces. We had the oven preheated at 250.

The kids made their own color combinations into a mini muffin pan.

Then we baked it for about 10 minutes to melt all the crayons. We let it set again at room temperature for another 10-15 minutes.
S was too impatient and poked her finger into the last one on the bottom right while it was still wet.

Then we inverted them onto a plate. If you find them hard to invert, put the tray in the freezer for a few minutes..

Look at these beauties...  I would like to name the green and brown one 'Mint Chocolate Chip'. Awesome job kids, High-Five!!!

And best of all, they are fun to color with and don't break as often as the traditional ones..

R's Scary Night!

R's Scary Night: One scary night, I closed the lights and I heard an owl.
The door was closed, And then the door was opening slowly.
And I saw a Ghost. And it was my Dad.

Learning about Volcanoes

R and myself were reading about Volcanoes as he was very interested in them at the Orlando Science Center. He wanted to surprise me after we were done by going an extra mile and making this display out of construction paper and an empty tube of M&M's. I thought it was pretty impressive, given that he made this out of whatever materials he had on hand.. The red part is the lava and the green area is the grass.. And of course there had to be a rescue helicopter in the picture!!

A Day at the Beach..

Saturday, we decided to go to the beach with the kids. We picked a new location called the Canaveral National Seashores near the Kennedy Space Center. N wanted a beach to herself and she got it!!  It was secluded and peaceful. We flew kites, played in the sand, enjoyed the waves and had a relaxing day at the beach. All went well until it was Maghrib time and we got attacked by the mosquitoes.. R was hit hard.. I mean HARD!! It seemed that he got beaten up by someone.. His eyes are swollen and red puffy spots all over.. (I feel so sorry and sad for him, my poor baby!)

Right after we read salaah and left, we stopped by a CVS and got some anti-itch and soothing gel. Alhamdulillah none of the kids complained back home. I gave R some Benadryl and as I type, he is enjoying his Spoon Therapy(details below) right now :D

He is feeling much better! I will be taking them to Chuck e Cheese in a little bit to reward him for all his patience and bravery..

Also need to stop by the car wash to get all those dead love bugs washed off.

I have pics on my phone and will download and share them by tonight InshaAllah.

Spoon Therapy:
Get four metal spoons; one of the fastest, easiest and cheapest ways to reduce puffiness around your eyes is with a glass of ice water and four metal serving spoons. Chill the spoons in ice water then place one over each eye. When the spoons becomes warm, switch them with the others chilling in the glass of ice water.

Door Hangers for Suhoor

I saw this idea somewhere on the internet and can't backtrack where I had seen it. If you you are aware, please let me know so I can give the due credit, inshaAllah.

Ru and U were kind enough to bring in the foam sheets and they got N, R and S started right away.

I am missing the red one.. where are the pictures of the red one, girls??

This one was a joint effort by U, R and S. U was very brave to let R and S help on her presentation. It came out great!

This one was made by N. Very Nice!

This one was done by Ru.Wonderful!

Here is N's passage close-up.

Here is a close-up of Ru.

And another close-up of N.

And work in progress of U's. Her entire presentation evolved from the Bo Boo's that S made.

No Captions Needed....

And if you are wondering how the beard was made, I simply took a 'Lowes plastic bag' and folded it a couple of times and cut the lower into a fringe.

Another use for those Paint Chips

We had picked up some paint chips and samples from Home Depot and this is what we ended up doing:

R's

U's

Ru and N are still working on theirs!!

R's Bug Catcher!

R has always been obsessed with a butterfly net and a box to keep critters and bugs. Finally I managed to get him a kit to make his own Critter Keeper. He was delighted! He started working on it right away!!

Yup, that's a moth! As per the rule, it was sent back to the 'free' within 15 minutes.

Painting this 'little' project would be the next 'big' project for R. One day.
